corpus christi sheephead. redfish kayak fishing 30milesOUT

this trip was early spring 2010. the boondock twins and I ty southerland had just meet. we loaded up our kayaks early one morning on the south side of dan Antonio at the bondocks. we grabbed some bean tacos for lunch and we were off. the destination was corpus christy. we had spring fever and we were gonna get in the water. the first stop was the package channel just south of corpus on mustang island. we launched my wilderness systems tarpon and James ocean kayak prowler 13. we went right into a canal that had a open lock. the tide was pulling hard thru the lock. James and I had some fresh dead shrimp we bought at port aransas. we thru shrimp on bottom with jig heads. waiting for some early spring action. my spinning rod doubled over. I set the hook on a nice sheep head. good way to stArt the kYK fishing south Texas season.
after leaving the packery we stopped by the stripes gass station. the boondocks had to load up on $.99 corndogs! we then headed over to the red dot lighted lighted pier and lAunch. we put the kayaks in and went on the east side of the bridge. I thru out my Bruce claw anchor up current of the bridge. this put me in perfect position to through my bait shrimp under the bridge. I did just that. I began to catch one after another red drum. no specks In sight. james and I picked up anchor and moved close to the reddot pier. we cast under the bridge from west side this time. bam speckled trout on! James landed 3-4 keeper trout to make the day.great trip. good way to start the 2010 kayak fishing season!
